Synthesia opens ChatGPT video plugin to every plan

The integration turns chat drafts and connected-workflow updates into editable business videos, with account credits and permissions still applying.

Synthesia has made its ChatGPT plugin available on every Synthesia plan, allowing users to create and revise business videos without leaving the chat. The tool can turn a written request, or material such as a document, slide deck or spreadsheet, into a video after ChatGPT asks follow-up questions about choices including visual style and length.

The plugin also searches a user’s existing Synthesia video library and retrieves video details in chat. It is installed from ChatGPT’s Plugins menu by searching for Synthesia and selecting Connect; people without an account can create a free Synthesia account during that process.

On Nov. 3, Unite.AI reported that the release combines script development and video production in one conversation. Product updates, call notes, launch briefs and how-to scripts drafted in ChatGPT can be converted where they were written, then altered with further conversational requests.

Videos use Synthesia’s Syren format by default. A Syren output can combine motion graphics, avatars, voiceover, music and b-roll, and is aimed at explainers, how-to material, product launches and marketing content. Users who need fixed wording, a brand kit or a template can instead request Studio, where an avatar reads the supplied script word for word and the result can be opened in Synthesia’s editor for scene-by-scene changes.

The workflow is geared toward business communications, including training, onboarding and compliance material. Synthesia says a two-minute Syren video with up to two rounds of edits typically consumes 1,000 to 2,000 credits, depending on length, complexity and refinement. Free-plan Syren videos can run for up to three minutes, while paid plans allow videos up to 60 minutes.

The integration can also work alongside other ChatGPT-connected plugins. A company could turn a new Slack product-release post into a 30-second launch video, use a Zoom customer-call transcript for a 60-second recap with next steps, or check BambooHR at 8 a.m. on weekdays to produce welcome videos for new hires. Workflows can run once, to a schedule or when new material arrives in Slack or an inbox.

OpenAI describes ChatGPT plugins as tools that combine instructions, connected apps and reusable workflows. Although its plugin directory is available across ChatGPT plans, OpenAI says use of an individual plugin may still depend on a user’s ChatGPT plan, workspace, role, region and included capabilities, while external-service permissions and authentication remain required.

The launch adds another video-making service to ChatGPT’s plugin ecosystem. As covered in October, CapCut has separately said it plans a conversational video-editing plugin for ChatGPT, though that service was not yet available at the time of its announcement.
